Erica’s childhood was shaped by music - and 26 pianos: her childhood home also houses the “Sonatina” program, where children from around the world come to study piano. Erica began playing the piano when she was 3 years old, and developed her teaching skills at Sonatina beginning at the age of 9. Soon after, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Juilliard School of Music, Pre-College Division. She made her solo orchestral debut with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at age 11, with subsequent solo engagements as a teen with the Albany Symphony Orchestra and the Nashua Symphony Orchestra, among others.
While continuing her concert career, Erica earned a BFA in Piano Performance from SUNY. During her sophomore year, Erica entered the Miss Vermont Pageant. Performing a Liszt Concert Etude, she won the state title and $3,500. Four months later, on the Miss America stage, Erica won the preliminary talent competition and a $3,000 scholarship. With some creative borrowing, she then purchased her first piano. Following graduation from SUNY, Erica established a successful piano teaching practice in New York City A skiing accident in 1987, which resulted in a torn thumb ligament, gave Erica time to re-evaluate her commitment to becoming a concert pianist with the seven hours a day required for practicing and total immersion in the world of classical music. As a result, Erica sold her teaching practice, stopped playing, and then sold her “Miss America piano.” Having jettisoned from the only career path she’d ever traveled, Erica enrolled at Baruch College in Manhattan and earned an MBA in Marketing. While in school, Erica began working for a Bösendorfer piano dealership in New York City selling pianos. It was then that she discovered her gift for matching persons to pianos and pianos to persons. Following her graduation from Baruch in 1992, Erica joined Steinway & Sons full time at Steinway Hall, the world renowned Flagship Showroom in Manhattan. She became the top sales representative for Steinway & Sons worldwide for eight consecutive years. Erica's wish to match clients to high-end pianos of all makes anywhere in the world inspired her to found her own company, "Piano Matchmaker LLC". She has been the single driving force behind Piano Matchmaker since its inception in 2005. Erica lives in Westport , CT with her two children, Luke and Jamie Rose, where piano and music continue to be an important part of family life. | ||||
